Introduction: Software testing is oriented to "detection". Its examining a system or an application under controlled conditions. A set of activities conducted with the intend of finding errors in software. Nowdays there are many software testing tools available like QTP , etc to manage all the process automatically and organize and make work easy.

Scope: The basic purpose of software testing is to detect software failures so that detects may be discovered and corrected. Testing is a critical phase in the product life cycle. The developer to tester is almost 1:1 ratio in every standard organization and this number will higher as per the project implementation criticalness.

Need: software testing is needed in order to avoid inconsistency between the functional/ non functional requirement and the actual requirement. It is basically done to make the product error free. Software testing is used to provide quality to the product and services to the customers.

Importance: Software testing is important for the quality of the software. As testing of software makes that software error free or bug free. Software bugs can potentially cause monetary and human loss, history is full of such examples like in may of 1996, a software bug caused the bank account of 823 customers of a major bank in US to be credited with 920 million US dollar. As you see software testing is important because software bugs could be expensive or even dangerous.

Your job as a software tester: one serious misconception about software testing is that it's only an entry level position in the software industry. This erroneous belief persists because of the ignorance of what software testing is and what it involves – mainly due to number of companies still developing software without any real process. They don't yet know that they need software testers of all skill levels to create great software. But ,as more emphasis is put on creating software of higher and higher quality, the value of software testing as a career is in great demand.
